Dear Altar Servers, Grace and peace of Christ be with you and your families. This manual is written for you. The manual outlines the orders and the rubrics for serving Mass at our Holy Rosary Catholic Parish. The purpose of this manual is to bring about uniformity and consistency to what we are called to do at Mass, to enhance the liturgical celebration with reverence and beauty, all for the glory of God. Overall, the ceremonial duties should be very familiar to you since you have been doing them all along. However, there are some old and new areas that you should pay particular attention in carrying out your ceremonial duties: 1. Postures: While walking, standing, or kneeling, if your hands are freed, please fold them upright, resting against your chest. 2. Our Father: At the invitation to pray the “Our Father”, please stand up and stay where you are. At the invitation to exchange the sign of peace, please come up to the altar. 3. Sign of peace: During the exchange of the sign of peace, please do not leave the sanctuary. After greeting one another with a sign of peace, please wait together by the credence table, near the altar. One of the ways of keeping the rubrics of altar serving fresh in your mind is to practice the serving at home with your parents. (Please do not use live candles or incense at home during practice). From time to time you might be called for special rehearsals in the church. Please review the rubrics well. Finally, I would like to thank you once again for your dedication for being altar servers. Your holy presence at the liturgy helps people to focus on praising God for ever more. May God continue to bless you and your families, Fr. Francis Hung Q Le, OP |
